Who is the course open to?
• One pair of 16-18 year old sixth-form students (Years 12 and 13) per school.
• Due to the intensive nature of the course each school must send two students, to enable them to support each other throughout the process.
• Students studying any subjects and from any ethnic or religious background.
• A limited number of places for teachers will be allocated on a first-come first served basis only after all student applications have been processed.

What does the project fee include and who pays for the students?
• The project is heavily subsidised by the Holocaust Educational Trust and now sponsored by a Government grant, keeping the cost at only £99.
• The project fee includes all printed materials, the visit to Poland, both seminars and travel insurance.
• Some schools provide funding for their students, whilst others ask students to pay or raise the funds themselves.
• Extra costs which are not covered in the £99 fee may include transportation to and from both seminars and transportation to and from the airport with the possible cost of staying overnight at the airport.

How do I reserve places on the project?
• To apply on behalf of your school, please complete an application form and return it with a minimum, non-refundable deposit of £25 per participant.

What is required of coordinating teachers?
• Coordinate arrangements for the project within their school.
• Choose two students to participate. (Schools and colleges have used a variety of methods. For guidance on how to choose, please call 020 7222 4761.)
• Liaise between the Trust and their students.
• Ensure that participating students attend all sessions and complete follow-up projects.
• Support their students both before and after their visit to Poland.
• Be available for contact throughout the visit to Poland.

Are Risk Assessments available?
- The Holocaust Educational Trust carries out thorough and full risk assessments of all aspects of the Project to ensure the health and safety of all staff and participants. These risk assessments are available for review by participants upon request.

Travel Arrangements
Travel times and flight details are provided to all participants, parents or guardians, coordinating teachers and participating schools prior to the Project. Up to date project information is posted on our project information page which highlights any changes to our travel arrangements http://www.lfaproject.org.uk/info.
All travel and tour arrangements to and from the UK to Poland and in Poland are managed and organised by Peltours Limited. They are a well established travel company and are ATOL (Air Travel Organisers Licence) protected (number 0481). For coach travel within Poland, Peltours use Orbis Travel. Orbis Travel is the national travel agency for Poland. Coaches and their drivers are certified to current Polish standards. A full and independent risk assessment has been carried out for coach travel within Poland on behalf of Peltours Ltd.
Travel to and from the seminars and UK airports are the responsibility of the participants and at their individual expense.

Levels of Supervision
- On all parts of the project there are a number of adults, including a number of teachers, as well educators supervising the participants. During the visit to Poland there is at least 1 adult to every 8 students. The participants are organised into groups of approximately 20 and are accompanied by a Trust Educator and a local Polish guide. The groups often also include teachers participating in the project. During the visits there are 2 groups per coach and each coach has a local Polish speaking guide who has a thorough knowledge and experience of the visit and the local area.

Accident and Emergency Procedures
- A number of precautions and measures have been put in place for accident and emergency procedures. Whilst completing application forms, participants are asked for all dietary and medical conditions, next of kin, passport and emergency contact details. These details are kept with the group leaders at all times during the visit. The Trust's head office has the facilities to contact, email and send text messages to all participants’ next of kin immediately should they need to. All participating schools must nominate a coordinating teacher who is instantly contactable throughout the duration of the visit. A full contingency plan has been drawn up by Peltours Ltd to be used in the event of a major incident. Peltours Ltd is a professional and well established company which has vast experience of writing and implementing major incident plans. If needed, the major incident plan would be carried out by a dedicated and experienced team from Peltours alongside close liaison with Trust staff. The plan will cover unforeseen events including the need for accommodation in Poland as a result of travel delay.

Lessons from Auschwitz Project Staff
- Lessons from Auschwitz Project Educators are fully trained to deliver the interactive and sensitive Lessons from Auschwitz Project to sixth form students. Preparation for this project includes a comprehensive three-day training course in Poland and regular ongoing support. All project staff are CRB checked and have a clear and full understanding of their roles and responsibilities, the itinerary and emergency procedures. All Educators on each visit are provided with an events pack which includes emergency contacts and medical requirements of all participants. Each participant is provided with a project pack which includes emergency contact details and travel information. On all visits to Poland, the group is accompanied by a qualified medical technician who provides support and expertise if and when it is needed.
